Big Time has won Game of the Year at Tuesday’s GAM3RS Choice Awards in Miami, one of three awards picked up by the multi-player RPG.
The free-to-play game, which also won Game of the Year at December’s inaugural GAM3 awards, beat Illuvium, Blankos Block Party, Undead Blocks and ev.io for the title.
The project also took out awards for best game in the Action/Adventure and RPG categories.
First-person shooter Shrapnel won Most Anticipated Game and Brycent won Best Content Creator. Both also won the same awards at the GAM3s.
Shrapnel’s cinematic trailer, directed by gaming legend Jerry O’Flaherty, also earned the project Best Trailer.
Billed as the first-ever in-person web3 games awards, the production hit a snag when the YouTube live stream failed to launch, disappointing more than 700 fans waiting to watch, some of whom were hoping to win one of 14 $100 giveaways promised to viewers by awards organisers.

How the winners won
A voting panel of 45 of web3 gaming’s “best and brightest” pulled together a list of five nominees for 17 of the 18 award categories, organisers said.
The members of the voting panel are listed here.
Each member of the voting panel could nominate 5 games per category and the top five nominated in each category made it onto the official nominees list.
For category 18, the Most Engaged Community, the nominees were selected entirely by gamers via an online vote.
To determine the winners in each category, award organisers tallied votes from the panel with those from gamers, who voted via the awards’ website.
The panelists ranked the games in each category from 1 to 5, and each rank was worth 1 to 5 points. A game ranked 1, for example, attracted the highest number of points at 5, and a rank of fifth earned a game 1 point.
The points were then tallied to get the cumulative score for each nominee, and this panel total counted for 90% of a game’s score. The final 10% was tallied from gamer votes.
“In the spirit of web3 and transparency, we will be releasing the actual ballot submissions (voter info redacted) in a timely manner after the conclusion of the event,” the organisers said. “We want everyone to have access to the raw data and in future events, we hope to host the voting on-chain so that it is immutable.”
